The Qualitative Researcher: Privacy Statement

The information below describes how The Qualitative Researcher manages your personal information in accordance with the law and your rights. It does not cover every situation so please read notices on forms, web pages or other points where you give us information about yourself. These will describe the specific uses we make of the information, the reasons and legal basis for holding it as well as your rights.
We hold basic personal data that is provided, in order to respond to requests to:
- Register and book on a Qualitative Researcher training course or event.
- Register and book The Qualitative Researcher coaching and mentoring services.
- Sign up to receive future updates and be on our mailing list about courses, events and related services.
Personal information held by The Qualitative Researcher
The online systems for people to register for training courses and events, to register and book coaching/mentoring, and to sign up for mailing list updates, are all self-service, with personal data entered online by an individual (or by someone acting on their behalf). This information is held in a secure database and includes:
- Data for registration and booking of training courses and events
Name, email, phone, organisation name and job title (where applicable), course booked on, course price, address for invoice (if relevant). - Data for registration and booking of coaching and/or mentoring
Name, email, phone, organisation name and job title (where applicable), region, price of session, address for invoice (if relevant). - Mailing lists data
First name, surname, email, region.
People who book and pay for services 1 and 2 online are directed to Eventbrite and/or Paypal, and payment information is then processed by those suppliers. The only personal information The Qualitative Researcher receives from payment suppliers such as Eventbrite is a confirmation of the name, email address, course booking, and the amount paid (together with the date and a unique transaction code). Card or bank information is not known to, or held by, The Qualitative Researcher.
Why we need your data
We need this personal data in order to process and respond to the above requests and provide a service to you.
What we do with your data
When we send bulk emails to people who have signed up for mailing lists, their first name, surname, and email address are loaded to the website of a provider of bulk e-mailing services, via a secure login. The provider used is Mail Chimp, with servers in the USA; their Privacy Notice https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/confirms that it has certified compliance with the EU-UK ‘Privacy Shield’ and so at the time of writing the use of their service is compliant with GDPR. No other third parties have access to your personal data unless the law allows them to do so. We will not share your personal data with other organisations for marketing or similar purposes.
How long do we keep your information?
As long as necessary for the purpose/s it was collected for. This will vary depending on the type of information, legal requirements or other justifications permitted by Data Protection Law. Basic personal data (name, address, contact details) and lists of attendees at events and training courses is held for at most 5 years. Data needed for accountancy purposes is held for 6 years.
Does the law allow this?
Data Protection law including the General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 sets out the principles we must adhere to and other conditions which must be satisfied. Forms, webpages or other places where you submit information will describe how the particular use complies with the law.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- If at any point you believe the information which The Qualitative Researcher processes on you is incorrect, you can request to see the information, and have it corrected or deleted, by emailing: researcher18@gmail.com
- If you are not satisfied with the response, or believe we are processing your personal data not in accordance with the law you can make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office https://ico.org.uk/concerns/handling/
